ここでは、一番人気の「中級イギリス英語版」ではなく、「中級アメリカ英語版」の感想になります。

まだ、購入したばかりですので、最初のUnitから順番に、取り組んでいます。

このブログは、継続させる為のアウトプットの場と、させて頂いています。

私が購入した本は全文英語ですが、日本語で解説されている本もありました。

日本語で解説されているので、英語で読むと時間がかかるので、サクッと読みたい方に、お勧めです。

また、自分の場合は、意味を分かりやすくする為に、日本語でメモを貼ったりしているので、日本語版の方が安いし、良かったかもしれません。

一般的な好みを、話す時に使います。

I　prefer　something　to　something　else

～より～を好む。

 

I　prefer　this　coat　to　other　one.

私は、このコートより、他のコートを好みます。

prefer　to・prefer　ーing　　～より～を好む。

＜to＞＜ing＞の両方が、使えます。

rather　than　　　より、むしろ。

私は、田舎に住む事を好みます。

I　prefer　to　live　in　the　country.

I　prefer　living　in　the　country.

 

私は、電車に乗るより、運転する方が好きです。

I　prefer　driving　to　taking　the　train.　

私は、電車に乗るより、むしろ運転する方が好きです。

I　prefer　driving　rather　than　taking　the　train.

I　prefer　to　drive　rather　than　take　the　train.

I　prefer　to　do　something　to　rather　than

～より～を好む。

サラは、都会暮らしより、むしろ田舎を好む。

特定の状況で、何かしたい時に使う表現。

特定の状況は、＜ing＞は、使わない。

コーヒーと、紅茶、どちらが良いですか？

 この様な、特定された状況で使います。

～が良い。

具体的な状況では＜ing＞は、使わない。

　　　電車を使うべきかな？

B：　I'd　prefer　to　drive.

　　　車が良いです。

I　would　rather　（I'd　rather）

I　would　rather　do

～する方が良い。

具体的な事を言う時に使います。

Should　we　take　the　train？

電車に乗るべきかな？

I'd　rather　drive.　　　　むしろ、ドライブでしょ。

I'd　prefer　to　drive.　　ドライブがしたいです。

 

Which　would　you　rather　do,　go　to　the　movies　or　go　shopping？

映画か、買い物か、どっちにする？

Which　would　you　prefer　to　do,　go　to　the　movies　or　go　shopping？

映画か、買い物か、どっちを選びますか？

 

I'd　rather　not　　出来れば～したくない。

 

I'm　tired.

I'd　rather　not　go　out　tonight,　if　you　don't　mind.

疲れた。出来れば、今夜は、出掛けたくない。

やんわりした言い方になるので、丁寧な表現になります。

I'd　rather　do　something　than　do　another

～するよりも、～する方が良い。

 

I'd　rather　stay　at　home　tonight　than　go　to　the　moveis.

今夜は、映画に行くよりも、家に居たい。

この様に、＜prefer　and　would　rather＞は、日常会話で使用頻度の高い表現です。
